One ...Two ..Three ...START!!!

One …two...Three …start ……
Hoye hoye …rang rangili something something ladki chel chabili uske chanchal nain kataar …..Hoye chanchal nain kataar hoo uska roop tez talwar …uske roop se qatal huye toh charcha shuru huaaaaa…NAGADA NAGADA …NAGADA BAJAAA!!!!
This is the song that has not even spared our dreams for the past many days ….coz that’s what the 10 of us have been hearing in all the spare time we get …..Especially the guys who work ….it was like come home n start dancing …one two three start …”hoye hoye hoye” …there we go again ….It was a totally different experience for me ….. Participating in a dance (yes, me being the one who enjoys watching n finding things that cud have been better) n that too BHANGRAAA(yes its something I wud have never done ..well thats what I thought , when me being the last one on earth to dance to bhangra tunes )…god I just hated those Punjabi songs other than a few rare exceptions n thank god we chose those exceptions for the dance ….in fact ``Mauja hi Mauja ‘’was my first preference! So what happens when 10 people get together with unique preferences, like me????….. U END UP DANCING ON THREE SONGSSSS!!!!!! And us being the lazy class, we cut short all of them n somehow came up with something somewhat presentable for the crowd here. The choreography was not done till the morning of the show , we all still had a million doubts….like which side to turn , when to jump etc etc (NOTE: the choreography was done as if we had Hrithik dancing with us , the steps were changing every second , the position every minute and if that was not enough we had three songs to go) So, knowing all this u can imagine ……its one day before the function and its 10 pm , the lawns of The Taj..One...Two …three …start …Hoye hoye hoye …….thr we go again …and we hear …. Annoyed voice `Stop the music, just stop it, Guys just look at yourselves u are supposed to be standing in a V ‘ ……n thr we are standing in some shape in which somehow we all manage to show our faces (That was the only thing that mattered) to the crowd ,that’s all u get when u try to make us dance . Patience is a virtue she must have thought …`Ok guys lets do it again, one two three start’ …music …hoye hoye hoye .....the music continued n we all did …even the workers at the taj would have memorized the song by the time we were done ……lesson we learn ….be prepared on time(Esp. with a group like ours ) …this isn’t the night stand before exam that always worked ….. When we all were about to finish Aman (Our very own DJ) played some songs on his laptop …..billo rani kaho toh abhi jaan de dun ……n we being ourselves … dared to include this song as well (WHAATT they are even thinking about it…I thought )…….pheww!!! Thanks to a few of us …who screamed “NOO WAYYYY!!!” are u really kidding me …….
The next morning …exhausted..Still….from the rehearsals last evening …..all the ladies of the organization committee were trying sooo hard just to make us move ..Guys , just once more…..Plss practice guys!!!!….they all had huge expectations from Bhangra…akhir apne desh ka sawaal tha …Bhangra is sooo popular here amongst all the non Indians , it had to be the best , it had to reflect what we all are proud of …. That’s when all of us decided to just have a blast...Smile...Enjoy…..give it all your energy everything else will fall in place itself …. N it did ….They loved …it was a hit …amongst everyone ….When the music was played again (ON DEMAND: D…hmmm the once more once more part he he he) ….an African man …he joined us …he tried to lift his hands in the air (like we all do in bhangra)….. Looked like he was experiencing an all together different joy….. A feeling that he was free from all the inhibitions …..he lifted his hands n jumped with every beat ….the joy on his face was amazing…looking at him n his friends dancing to the tunes of Nagada ….made me see the strength in the language of music ….which made everyone on the stage that day …African, American, Asian Indian …everyone dance to the same beat all together in one tune ….that is the power of melody ...in the end all the hard work (ahem ahem ….I know many people disagree)…. The rehearsals in the veranda in this chilly season after a day’s work… was all worth it …was all worth the…. Experience!!!
